ROK and US Address Regional Security Ahead of Putin’s DPRK Visit

Senior officials from the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the United States held an emergency phone call on Friday to discuss the possible impending visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), according to Seoul's Foreign Ministry.

During the call, ROK Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun expressed concerns that Putin's visit could lead to deeper military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow, potentially violating United Nations Security Council resolutions. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell echoed these concerns and pledged continued cooperation to address the regional instability and challenges that may arise from the trip.

A senior official at Seoul's presidential office indicated on Wednesday that Putin's visit to the DPRK is expected to occur \"in the coming days.\"
