The Second China-U.S. Track 1.5 Dialogue, held in Beijing on Thursday, marked a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations. Approximately 30 representatives from both nations, including John Thornton, co-chair of the Board of Trustees of the Asia Society, engaged in candid and constructive discussions.
The dialogue, themed \"Sharing Perspectives and Finding Solutions on Key and Urgent Issues,\" emphasized the importance of strengthening communication and properly handling differences to avoid conflicts and confrontations. Both sides agreed that a stable development of China-U.S. relations aligns with the interests of their peoples and meets the international community's expectations.
Commitments were made to adhere to peaceful coexistence, enhance mutual understanding and trust through increased dialogue, and deepen cooperation in critical areas such as economy, trade, climate change, health, and artificial intelligence. Additionally, the dialogue highlighted the necessity of promoting people-to-people exchanges, particularly among the youth, to build lasting connections.
Both parties acknowledged the importance of strengthening risk management and responsibly addressing differences, recognizing their roles as major countries in tackling global challenges collectively. The dialogue concluded with an agreement to continue deepening communication efforts to ensure the stable and healthy development of China-U.S. relations.
The event was co-hosted by the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Asia Society of the United States.
