China Backs Global Peace Initiatives on Ukraine Crisis

In a recent statement, China expressed its support for all efforts aimed at achieving peace in the Ukraine crisis. A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, emphasized that China welcomes and supports initiatives conducive to peace during a press briefing about an upcoming Ukraine peace conference in Switzerland.

Speaking about the conference, Lin Jian highlighted that China's position has been fair, just, and open. China has maintained close communication with all involved parties, including Switzerland and Ukraine, to facilitate the organization of the conference. The spokesperson encouraged the invitation of all relevant parties to participate on an equal footing, ensuring that discussions are conducted fairly and all options are thoroughly considered.

However, China announced that it would not participate in the meeting, citing the absence of three crucial elements: recognition from both Russia and Ukraine, equal participation of all parties, and the fair discussion of all peace plans. This stance underscores China's commitment to a balanced and equitable approach to conflict resolution.

In addition to its stance on the peace conference, China and Brazil have been actively pursuing a political settlement to the Ukraine crisis. On May 23, the two nations issued a six-point agreement that outlines key principles for de-escalating the situation. These principles include avoiding the expansion of the battlefield, preventing escalation of fighting or provocations by any party, maintaining dialogue and negotiations, and increasing humanitarian assistance.

The six-point agreement also reflects mutual opposition to the use of weapons of mass destruction, attacks on nuclear power plants, and the division of the world into isolated political or economic groups. Over 100 countries have responded positively to these common understandings, indicating a broad international consensus in favor of these measures.

Lin Jian concluded by stating, \"We welcome more countries to support and endorse the six-point common understandings,\" signaling China's ongoing commitment to fostering global cooperation and peace.
