China and Iran Strengthen Ties Amid Expanding BRICS Alliance

In a pivotal move at the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that China-Iran relations have reached a critical juncture. Wang expressed China's readiness to deepen coordination and cooperation with Iran in both regional and international arenas.

Wang, who serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the strategic importance of viewing bilateral relations through a comprehensive lens. \"China is committed to enhancing cooperation across the board, contributing to regional and global peace and stability,\" he stated during his meeting with Iranian Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani.

The BRICS group, originally composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, welcomed Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates as new members in August 2023. This expansion, effective from January 1, 2024, marks a significant shift in the bloc's dynamics, aiming to amplify the influence of the Global South in shaping international governance.

Wang Yi welcomed Iran's inaugural participation in the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting as a full member, underscoring the potential of the BRICS mechanism to reform and improve global governance. He emphasized the need to enhance the voice of developing countries and promote a more just and rational international order.

Ali Bagheri Kani echoed these sentiments, noting that theๆทฑๅŒ– Iran-China relations would not only benefit their nations but also foster peace and stability globally. \"Strengthening our ties will contribute to building a more equitable international order and safeguarding the legitimate rights of developing countries,\" Bagheri remarked.

This strategic partnership between China and Iran within the expanding BRICS framework signals a commitment to collaborative efforts that address complex global challenges, from economic development to geopolitical stability.
