China Opposes Philippines’ Move to Permanently Occupy Ren’ai Jiao Reef

The Chinese mainland Foreign Ministry on Friday stated that the Philippines should refrain from attempting to permanently occupy Ren'ai Jiao in the South China Sea.

Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the ministry, clarified China's stance on the Ren'ai Jiao issue amidst the Philippine Coast Guard's allegations. The Philippines accused the Chinese mainland Coast Guard of obstructing the evacuation of a sick personnel from the Philippine armed forces stationed at the reef in China's Nansha Qundao.

Mao emphasized that if the Philippine side communicates its intentions in advance, the Chinese mainland is willing to allow the delivery of necessary living materials to the Philippine warship grounded at Ren'ai Jiao. Additionally, the Chinese mainland would facilitate the evacuation of the personnel involved.

However, Mao warned that the Philippines should not use this situation as a pretext to bring construction materials to the warship with the aim of establishing a permanent presence on Ren'ai Jiao.
