In a significant move to enhance regional connectivity, the leaders of the Chinese mainland, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan have congratulated each other on the signing of an intergovernmental agreement for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project. The agreement, finalized via video link on Thursday, marks a pivotal step in the Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to strengthen economic and trade ties across Central Asia.
The Chinese premier emphasized that this railway is a strategic project that will serve as a cornerstone for connectivity between China and Central Asia. He highlighted the project as a landmark achievement in Belt and Road cooperation, transforming the railway from a conceptual vision into a tangible reality.
Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov expressed enthusiasm about the new transport line, describing it as a vital link connecting Asia to Europe and the Persian Gulf countries. He noted that the railway will significantly boost connectivity and economic exchanges among the countries along its route, as well as the broader region.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the railway's role as the shortest land route linking China with Central Asian nations. He added that the project will open up vast markets in South Asia and the Middle East, fostering greater cooperation between regional countries and China.
The railway is set to commence in Kashgar, located in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the Chinese mainland, before traversing Kyrgyzstan and entering Uzbekistan. Looking ahead, there are plans to extend the railway further into West Asia and South Asia, paving the way for enhanced regional integration and economic development.
