Chinese Foreign Ministry Urges US to Halt ‘Taiwan Independence’ Signals

The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday called on the United States to cease sending any form of wrong signals to the 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces, according to a statement.

Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the ministry, emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory and reiterated that the Taiwan question is an internal affair of the Chinese people.

\"Any pressure or threats cannot in any way shake the Chinese government and people's strong determination, will and ability to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country,\" Mao stated.

She further clarified that the real status quo of the Taiwan Straits is that both sides belong to China, underscoring that the resolution of the Taiwan question remains a matter for the Chinese people.

The spokesperson urged the U.S. to recognize the nature and ambitions of the \"Taiwan independence\" separatist forces, adhere to the one-China principle, and respect the three China-U.S. joint communiques.

Mao also called on the United States to honor its commitment not to support \"Taiwan independence,\" stop arming Taiwan, and avoid sending any wrong signals to the separatist forces in any form.
