China Urges Calm Amid Rising Tensions on Korean Peninsula

The Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed opposition to any actions or rhetoric that could escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula on Wednesday.

This statement followed reports that the Republic of Korea (ROK) decided to suspend a military agreement with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) earlier in the week.

Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, addressed the media, emphasizing that maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula is a shared interest for all parties involved.

\"We are concerned about the current developments,\" Mao stated, highlighting the recent increase in confrontations between the concerned parties.

China reaffirmed its commitment to supporting dialogue and improving relations between the ROK and DPRK, urging all sides to remain calm and exercise restraint.

The suspension of the September 19 military agreement was initiated by the ROK in response to the DPRK's actions, including the dispatch of balloons carrying trash over the border.

The agreement, originally signed during the 2018 inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang, aimed to prohibit hostile acts across the border.

China hopes that the involved parties will act prudently and constructively to uphold peace and stability in the region.
