A candidate from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) was violently attacked with a knife during local elections in Mannheim, according to the party.
The incident marks a troubling escalation in the city's political tensions, following a recent stabbing at an anti-Islam rally just days earlier.
The leader of AfD's regional branch informed AFP that the attack occurred on Tuesday when the candidate confronted an individual attempting to remove an election poster.
Authorities have not confirmed or denied the occurrence of the incident.
