2023 Report Highlights Deteriorating Human Rights in the United States

A recent report released by the State Council Information Office of the People's Republic of China has highlighted a continuing decline in the human rights situation in the United States throughout 2023.

The report states, "In the United States, human rights are becoming increasingly polarized. While a ruling minority holds political, economic and social dominance, the majority of ordinary people are increasingly marginalized, with their basic rights and freedoms being disregarded." It also reveals that a staggering 76 percent of Americans believe that their nation is heading in the wrong direction.

Civil and Political Rights Under Strain Amid Rising Gun Violence

According to the report, political infighting, government dysfunction, and governance failure in the United States have hindered the protection of civil and political rights. Additionally, the lack of bipartisan consensus on gun control measures has contributed to a surge in mass shootings.

The Gun Violence Archive reported at least 654 mass shootings in the United States in 2023, resulting in nearly 43,000 deaths, averaging 117 deaths per day.
