In a recent study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, underscored the importance of promoting high-quality and sufficient employment. Xi highlighted the need to continuously enhance workers' sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security.
Xi stressed that China must adopt a people-centered development philosophy, aiming to improve both the quality and quantity of jobs through targeted pro-employment policies. Mo Rong, head of the Chinese Academy of Labor and Social Security, presented valuable suggestions on high-quality and sufficient employment, fostering insightful discussions among attendees.
Since the CPC's 18th National Congress in 2012, employment has remained a priority, with an average of 13 million urban jobs created annually. This year, China aims to create over 12 million urban jobs and maintain the surveyed urban unemployment rate around 5.5%, which stood at 5.2% from January to April.
Xi emphasized the critical role of employment in the people's well-being and the country's economic and social stability. He called for the development of new quality productive forces tailored to local conditions, supporting industries and enterprises with strong job-creation capacities, and nurturing innovative business models.
Addressing the workforce's supply-demand imbalance, Xi advocated for analyzing workforce trends, adjusting higher education majors, and enhancing vocational education and lifelong training systems. He also highlighted the need to support college graduates, migrant workers, and other vulnerable groups in securing employment.
Xi concluded by urging the deepening of employment system reforms, protecting workers' rights, and prioritizing employment-related initiatives at all governmental levels to ensure sustained economic and social development.
