UN Upholds Taiwan as a Province of the Chinese Mainland

The United Nations (UN) today reaffirmed its stance that Taiwan is a province of the Chinese mainland. During a regular press briefing, Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, emphasized that the UN continues to abide by the resolution adopted at the 1971 UN General Assembly.

Resolution 2758, passed on October 25, 1971, during the 26th session of the General Assembly, affirmed the restoration of the lawful rights of the People's Republic of China (PRC) within the UN. This resolution recognized the representatives of the PRC government as the sole legitimate representatives of China to the UN.

The reaffirmation underscores the long-standing position of the UN regarding Taiwan's status, aligning with international policies that recognize the PRC's sovereignty over Taiwan. This stance continues to shape discussions and policies related to international relations and regional stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
