At a recent meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Astana, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that the Taiwan question remains at the heart of China's core interests.
Wang highlighted that separatist activities seeking \"Taiwan independence\" are the most destructive factor undermining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. As a prominent member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Wang's remarks underscore China's unwavering stance on national reunification.
His comments come just a day after he reiterated the importance of the one-China principle in maintaining peace across the Taiwan Strait. Wang also spoke on China's firm position regarding the assumption of office by the Taiwan region's new leader, Lai Ching-te, labeling Lai's actions as an attempt to betray the nation and its ancestors.
\"The ugly acts of Lai Ching-te and others who betray the nation and ancestors are disgraceful,\" Wang stated. He expressed confidence that China will achieve complete reunification, adding, \"Taiwan will return to the embrace of the motherland.\"
Wang further asserted that all proponents of \"Taiwan independence\" will ultimately be disgraced in history. He also acknowledged the support of SCO member states, who uphold the one-China principle, safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, aligning with the basic norms governing international relations.
Concluding his remarks, Wang expressed appreciation for the SCO members' support in opposing \"Taiwan independence\" activities and striving for national reunification, reinforcing China's commitment to its national objectives.
