China and Uzbekistan Strengthen Ties at Astana Meeting

In a significant display of diplomatic solidarity, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov on Monday in Astana, Kazakhstan. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, underscored the deepening relationship between China and Uzbekistan.

Wang Yi emphasized that strategic guidance under head-of-state diplomacy is the key driver for China-Uzbekistan relations. He highlighted the profound friendship between the two leaders as a cornerstone of their bilateral ties.

Affirming China's unwavering support, Wang stated that China will continue to assist Uzbekistan in safeguarding its national interests, advancing its development strategy, and playing a more prominent role in international affairs. He praised Uzbekistan's commitment to the one-China principle and expressed confidence in Uzbekistan's continued support for China's core interests.

The Chinese Foreign Minister also encouraged both nations to implement more trade-facilitated measures, enhance connectivity, and collaborate on counter-terrorism, drug control, and combating transnational crimes. Wang proposed the development of a comprehensive, multi-dimensional network encompassing intergovernmental, subnational, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

In response, Foreign Minister Saidov expressed Uzbekistan's willingness to collaborate with China in formulating cooperation plans and expanding collaborative fields. He reiterated Uzbekistan's steadfast adherence to the one-China principle and its support for China's efforts towards national reunification. Saidov assured that Uzbekistan will consistently stand with China on major issues and enhance coordination to maintain regional peace and stability.
