At the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev held pivotal discussions to enhance bilateral relations.
Wang emphasized the importance of building a China-Kyrgyzstan community of shared future, highlighting the need to deepen political mutual trust and expand mutually beneficial cooperation. A key focus of their talks was the Belt and Road Initiative, where Wang expressed China's commitment to strengthening economic and trade ties, expanding connectivity, and promoting cultural exchanges between the two nations.
Wang also acknowledged Kyrgyzstan's support regarding China's stance following the Taiwan regional leadership election, reinforcing the strong diplomatic ties between the two countries.
In response, Kulubaev affirmed Kyrgyzstan's unwavering adherence to the one-China principle and reiterated support on issues related to Xinjiang, Xizang, and Hong Kong. He expressed Kyrgyzstan's eagerness to intensify high-level exchanges with China, increase trade volumes, facilitate people-to-people interactions, and bolster cooperation within multilateral frameworks.
Additionally, Kulubaev extended an invitation to Chinese enterprises to invest and conduct business in Kyrgyzstan. He also conveyed Kyrgyzstan's willingness to sign an intergovernmental agreement with China and Uzbekistan to initiate the construction of a railway connecting the three countries, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and economic integration.
