Mainland China Criticizes Taiwan’s New Leader Lai for ‘Dangerous’ Independence Signals

In a strong response to Taiwan region's new leader Lai Ching-te's recent speech, a spokesperson from the Chinese mainland condemned Lai for sending what was described as a \"dangerous signal\" seeking \"Taiwan independence.\"

Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, accused Lai of making provocations aimed at undermining peace and stability across the Straits. According to Chen, Lai's speech stubbornly follows the \"Taiwan independence\" stance, advocating separatism and inciting cross-Straits confrontation by relying on foreign support and force.

Chen emphasized that the mainstream public in Taiwan aspires for peace and development rather than conflict and economic downturn. He criticized Lai for ignoring public opinion, labeling him as \"a worker for Taiwan independence.\"

The spokesperson highlighted the ongoing complex and serious situation across the Straits, attributing it to the Democratic Progressive Party's persistent separatist stance and rejection of the 1992 Consensus, which embodies the one-China principle. Chen accused the party of colluding with external forces to provoke actions seeking \"Taiwan independence.\"

\"Taiwan is an inalienable part of China,\" Chen stated, asserting that \"Taiwan independence\" is incompatible with peace across the Straits. He reaffirmed China's determination to resolve the Taiwan question and achieve national reunification, emphasizing strong capabilities to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Chen vowed that China would take resolute actions against any separatist activities seeking \"Taiwan independence\" and external interference, adding, \"We will never tolerate any 'Taiwan independence' separatist acts in any form.\" He reaffirmed that regardless of changes in Taiwan's regional leadership, the fact that both sides of the Straits belong to one China remains unchanged, and the historical trend of national reunification will continue.

\"We will fully implement the Party's overall policy for resolving the Taiwan question in the new era, unswervingly uphold the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, work together with Taiwan compatriots to promote the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and cross-Straits integrated development, and resolutely advance the reunification of the motherland,\" Chen concluded.
