China is set to deepen its cooperation with Russia and other Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states to enhance regional security, stability, and development. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the commitment to advancing global governance towards a fairer and more reasonable direction during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Reflecting on Russian President Vladimir Putin's successful state visit to China, Wang expressed China's eagerness to build on the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Russia. He highlighted the intention to implement new consensuses reached by the two leaders, aiming to elevate China-Russia relations to unprecedented levels.
Addressing the Taiwan issue, Wang reaffirmed that regardless of any changes in the situation, Taiwan remains an integral part of China. He underscored the historical trend towards eventual reunification and praised President Putin's supportive stance on China's core interests.
Wang also pointed out that a united SCO with win-win cooperation aligns with the common interests of all member states and supports the emergence of a multi-polar world. Lavrov echoed this sentiment, expressing Russia's willingness to maintain high-level exchanges with China and promote cooperation across various fields.
The two foreign ministers also discussed pressing global concerns, including the Middle East situation, the Ukraine crisis, and developments on the Korean Peninsula, emphasizing their shared commitment to addressing these challenges collaboratively.
