China and Kazakhstan Set Sights on Ambitious Trade Expansion

At a joint press conference in Astana on Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu unveiled plans for more ambitious trade goals between the two nations.

The collaboration has already seen significant progress, with 26 of the 45 production capacity cooperation projects completed. These projects span various sectors including metallurgy, minerals, energy resources, machinery manufacturing, building materials, chemicals, and infrastructure construction.

Wang highlighted the accelerated cooperation in oil and gas and nuclear energy sectors, emphasizing the strong potential these industries hold for both countries. \"We have made remarkable strides in our oil and gas cooperation, and we're excited to see similar growth in nuclear energy,\" he stated.

Looking ahead, China and Kazakhstan aim to leverage their complementary advantages to enhance Belt and Road cooperation. The focus will extend beyond traditional areas such as economy, trade, investment, energy, connectivity, and agriculture, to include emerging fields like finance, artificial intelligence, digital economy, and new energy.

China has also expressed intent to expand imports of high-quality agricultural products from Kazakhstan, fostering a mutually beneficial trade relationship.

Additionally, both nations are committed to enhancing the efficiency of China-Europe freight trains. Plans include upgrading customs clearance and cargo transportation capacities at ports, alongside improving transportation services and transit policies to facilitate smoother trade routes.

These initiatives reflect a deepening economic partnership between China and Kazakhstan, set to drive growth and innovation across various sectors.
