Xi Highlights Five Principles Driving China-Russia Partnership

In a display of enduring alliance, Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined the five key principles fueling the robust China-Russia relationship during a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Reflecting on 75 years of diplomatic ties, Xi emphasized that mutual respect, win-win cooperation, lasting friendship, strategic coordination, and fairness and justice are the cornerstones of this partnership. He described the recent talks as \"sincere and cordial,\" highlighting the comprehensive review of their shared history and achievements.

Highlighting win-win cooperation, Xi pointed out that two-way trade between China and Russia surpassed $240 billion last year, a significant increase of 2.7 times compared to a decade ago. This growth underscores the deepening economic ties and the mutual benefits derived from their collaboration.

On people-to-people and cultural exchanges, Xi announced the Roadmap for China-Russia Cooperation on People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges Before 2030. With 2024 and 2025 designated as China-Russia Years of Culture, both nations are set to enhance cultural interactions, fostering greater mutual understanding and affinity.

Advocating for multipolarity and multilateralism, Xi reaffirmed their commitment to a UN-centered international system and active participation in platforms like APEC and G20. Both leaders expressed support for each other's upcoming chairmanships in BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, aiming to strengthen the unity of the Global South.

Addressing global conflicts, Xi stressed the importance of dedication to political settlement of hotspots. He called for the resolution of the Palestine-Israel conflict based on UN resolutions and a two-state solution, while advocating for a political settlement to the Ukraine crisis, emphasizing respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The joint press conference concluded with the signing of the Joint Statement of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China and the Russian Federation on Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Coordination for the New Era, marking a significant milestone in their 75-year diplomatic relationship.
