China and Brunei Pledge to Elevate Cooperation on 40th Independence Anniversary

In a significant display of bilateral commitment, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Bruneian Foreign Minister II Dato' Erywan Pehin Yusof met in Beijing on Tuesday to discuss enhancing cooperation between their nations.

Highlighting the 40th anniversary of Brunei's independence, Wang Yi expressed China's readiness to elevate the strategic partnership to new heights. He emphasized China's support for Brunei's economic diversification and its unique role in regional affairs.

The two ministers explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in various sectors, including education, cultural tourism, sports, and the development of sister cities. This collaboration aims to facilitate greater personnel exchanges and create new highlights of cooperation.

Wang Yi reiterated China's commitment to ASEAN centrality and strategic independence, expressing willingness to work with ASEAN members to promote regional development and stability. He also underscored the importance of implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.

Bruneian Foreign Minister Erywan Pehin Yusof echoed these sentiments, expressing optimism about China's continued development and its positive impact on regional growth. He affirmed Brunei's dedication to safeguarding regional peace and prosperity through closer ties with China.

This meeting marks a pivotal step in strengthening China-Brunei relations, fostering mutual growth, and contributing to the stability and development of the broader ASEAN region.
