China and the U.S. have outlined ambitious plans to enhance their collaborative efforts in combating climate change, following the conclusion of a pivotal meeting in Washington, D.C. The envoys agreed to deploy advanced emission reduction technologies and to establish robust monitoring, reporting, and verification systems to ensure transparency and accountability.
The two-day summit, co-chaired by China's Special Envoy for Climate Change, Liu Zhenmin, and the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Podesta, emphasized the need for technical cooperation on non-CO2 greenhouse gases, including industrial nitrous oxide and substances contributing to tropospheric ozone.
This collaboration builds upon the \"Sunshine Declaration on Strengthening Cooperation to Address the Climate Crisis\" from last year's summit in San Francisco, which highlighted key areas such as energy transition, methane reduction, circular economy, deforestation, and initiatives in low-carbon provinces, states, and cities.
