China and Hungary Forge New Era Strategic Partnership

In a significant move strengthening international ties, China and Hungary announced the establishment of an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for the new era.

The joint statement, issued on Thursday, marks a deepening of relations that began with the comprehensive strategic partnership established in 2017. The partnership aims to enhance cooperation across various sectors, including economics, technology, education, and culture.

During Prime Minister Viktor Orban's state visit to Hungary from May 8 to 10, 2024, discussions with President Tamas Sulyok and President Xi Jinping laid the groundwork for this expanded alliance. Both nations expressed mutual respect and admiration for each other's development achievements and foreign policies.

A key focus of the partnership is the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), with both countries committing to deepen high-quality cooperation. Projects like the Hungary-Serbia Railway and the China-Europe Railway Express are set to enhance connectivity and trade between China and Central and Eastern Europe.

Economic collaboration will also see a boost, with Chinese enterprises encouraged to invest in Hungary’s growing markets. Both sides aim to foster innovation in emerging fields such as clean energy, artificial intelligence, and digital economy, ensuring sustainable growth and technological advancement.

Beyond economics, cultural and educational exchanges are set to flourish. Initiatives include joint research projects, language learning programs, and collaborative cultural events to strengthen people-to-people connections.

The partnership also emphasizes cooperation in health, finance, and environmental protection, addressing global challenges through shared expertise and resources. Both nations reaffirm their commitment to global security and peaceful dispute resolution, aligning with international norms and supporting a just international order.

As they celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, China and Hungary’s enhanced strategic partnership underscores their dedication to mutual growth and global collaboration.
