China’s Wang Yi Urges EU to Embrace Pragmatic China Policy During Talks with France

In a significant move towards strengthening international ties, senior Chinese official Wang Yi expressed hope that France would encourage the European Union to adopt a positive and pragmatic policy towards China. This statement was made during a phone conversation with Emmanuel Bonne, France’s Diplomatic Counselor to the President.

Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, highlighted the volatile international landscape. He emphasized the importance of China and France aligning their positions on major global issues that impact world peace, stability, and the future of humanity.

Wang Yi underscored the shared values of independence and win-win cooperation between China and France. He reiterated their mutual opposition to global division and bloc confrontation, advocating for multilateralism and the upholding of the UN Charter and international law. Wang Yi also expressed China’s willingness to elevate bilateral cooperation with France across various sectors, aiming to enhance their roles in addressing global challenges.

Emmanuel Bonne echoed this sentiment, rejecting the notion of bloc confrontation and expressing France’s commitment to deepening high-level exchanges on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. Bonne highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to mitigate hotspot issues, tackle global challenges such as climate change, bridge the North-South divide, and advance France-China and Europe-China relations.

The discussions between Wang Yi and Bonne also covered cooperation in artificial intelligence, climate change coordination, and enhancing trade practices through initiatives like \"from French farm to Chinese dinner table.\" These efforts aim to create a favorable environment for businesses from both countries to invest and operate in each other’s markets.

Additionally, the two sides coordinated their approaches to international and regional concerns, including the Ukraine situation and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, demonstrating a unified stance on pressing global issues.
