At the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) defense ministers' meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun emphasized the global benefits of China’s proposed initiatives. Highlighting projects like the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Security Initiative (GSI), Dong asserted that these efforts have significantly enhanced the well-being of people worldwide.
Dong noted that the SCO has evolved into a constructive force, promoting equity and justice amidst rapid global changes. He praised the organization's role in fostering mutual assistance and safeguarding common security, particularly in times of increasing instability and complex conflicts.
Emphasizing the importance of solidarity and cooperation, Dong called for SCO member states to strengthen strategic communication and expand military collaboration. He advocated for enhanced anti-terrorism efforts and more extensive youth exchanges to build a resilient and inclusive SCO community.
During his visit, Dong engaged in discussions with defense ministers from Pakistan, Iran, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. The talks focused on regional security, state-to-state and military relations, and shared concerns, culminating in the issuance of a joint communique that underscores the collective commitment to regional peace and stability.
Dong concluded by reaffirming China’s dedication to high-quality development and its readiness to collaborate with regional partners to implement the GSI, aiming to create more opportunities for countries around the world and contribute to global peace.
