A Chinese military spokesperson on Thursday called for the United States to build open and practical relations between the two militaries, emphasizing non-conflict and mutual respect based on equality.
Wu Qian, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made these remarks at a regular press briefing when asked to detail the video call between Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun and his U.S. counterpart Lloyd Austin on April 16.
Wu stated that the two sides engaged in a candid and in-depth exchange of views on China-U.S. relations, military interactions, the Taiwan question, the South China Sea issue, and other matters of common concern, achieving positive and pragmatic results.
The call holds positive significance for maintaining overall stability in military relations between the two nations, Wu added.
He noted that since the end of last year, the two militaries have conducted a series of exchange and cooperation activities, playing a positive role in stabilizing and improving relations.
Wu expressed hope that the U.S. will meet China halfway to build military ties that gradually accumulate mutual trust, serving as a stable cornerstone for the development of bilateral relations.
