China and Cambodia Forge Stronger Partnership for Mutual Growth

In a significant move towards regional collaboration, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s commitment to deepening comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia. During talks with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sok Chenda Sophea, Wang emphasized the vision of building a China-Cambodia community with a shared future.

Wang highlighted the importance of strengthening strategic mutual trust and enhancing unity between the two nations. He outlined plans to collaborate across six key areas: politics, production capacity, agriculture, energy, security, and people-to-people exchanges. This strategic partnership aims to consolidate mutual benefits and promote sustainable development amidst a complex international landscape.

The upcoming 2024 China-Cambodia People-to-People Exchange Year presents a unique opportunity to bolster friendly relations and solidify the social foundation of bilateral ties. Both nations are set to work together to combat illegal activities such as online gambling, telecommunications fraud, and human trafficking, ensuring a safer and more stable region.

Wang also underscored the importance of advancing China-ASEAN relations and enhancing Lancang-Mekong cooperation. By steering East Asian cooperation in the right direction, China and Cambodia aim to foster a harmonious and prosperous regional environment.

Cambodian Foreign Minister Sok Chenda Sophea reiterated Cambodia’s unwavering support for the one-China policy and expressed eagerness for increased cooperation projects with China. He welcomed more Chinese investments into Cambodia, reinforcing the country’s role as a key partner in Southeast Asia. Sok also emphasized Cambodia’s stance against external interference, advocating for united efforts with China to maintain regional peace and stability.
