Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for the immediate admission of Palestine into the United Nations, describing it as a crucial step to rectify prolonged historical injustices. Speaking at a press conference in Port Moresby alongside his Papua New Guinea counterpart Justin Tkatchenko, Wang emphasized the role of the UN in addressing global challenges.
He criticized the United States for its recent veto that denied Palestine full UN membership, stating that it reflects a departure from international morality and leaves a dishonorable mark in history.
Wang stressed that Palestine's full UN membership should not be contingent upon negotiations with Israel, but rather a precondition that facilitates meaningful dialogue towards a two-state solution.
According to Wang, the international community has a profound obligation to support Palestine's membership as an equal member state, fulfilling an international obligation that all UN member states share.
He also highlighted that conditions are ripe for Palestine to join the UN fully, and justice for Palestine's membership has been long overdue.
The Chinese Foreign Minister called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its duty in maintaining international peace and security by supporting Palestine's membership bid.
Wang's remarks come amid ongoing debates over Palestine's status in international forums, reflecting broader tensions in global geopolitics.
