China and Brazil Mark 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations with Landmark Seminar

Brasilia played host to a significant seminar on April 17-18, celebrating the half-century milestone of China-Brazil diplomatic relations. Titled \"50th Anniversary of China-Brazil Diplomatic Relations: Building a Sustainable World through Cooperation,\" the event attracted over 600 participants from the Brazilian government, enterprises, think tanks, and the University of Brasilia.

Geraldo Alckmin, acting President and Minister of Industry of Brazil, delivered a heartfelt congratulatory speech, highlighting the robust economic and trade cooperation and the deep friendship that has flourished between the two nations. Alckmin emphasized the pivotal role of China and Brazil as the largest developing countries in their respective hemispheres, noting that enhanced collaboration in industries such as agriculture, energy, and global governance is crucial for achieving modernization goals and benefiting their populations.

Chinese experts from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, including Shi Dan, Zhang Yongsheng, Zhang Haipeng, Chen Xin, and Zhou Zhiwei, engaged in insightful discussions with Brazilian counterparts. Topics ranged from the low-carbon economy and energy transition to technological innovation, ecological transformation, poverty reduction, and global governance. These dialogues underscored the shared commitment to sustainable development and economic resilience.

The seminar also featured speeches at the University of Brasilia, where Chinese scholars presented on Chinese modernization and its global significance. They explored China’s new industrialization efforts, harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature, strategies for poverty elimination, and the Global Development Initiative. These presentations resonated strongly with the audience, sparking enthusiastic responses from both teachers and students.

This event is a testament to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ dedication to fostering international academic exchanges and strengthening cooperation in Latin America.
