China Defends Market Principles Amid Western Overcapacity Concerns

In response to growing concerns from some Western countries about China’s industrial overcapacity, Chinese authorities emphasized that such issues should be understood within the framework of a market economy.

Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, stated during a regular press briefing, “The so-called China’s overcapacity impact on the global market is a false narrative.”

Lin warned that implementing trade protection measures based on overcapacity claims could disrupt the stability and seamless flow of global production and supply chains. Such disruptions, he noted, would hinder the green transformation of the global economy and the development of emerging industries.

He further highlighted that China’s advancements in the new energy sector stem from genuine skills and robust market competition, rather than reliance on government subsidies.

“China always maintains an open attitude toward industrial cooperation. We hope relevant countries will keep an open mind, adhere to fair competition, create an international, market-oriented and law-based economic and trade cooperation environment, and work with China to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, promoting economic globalization in a more inclusive direction,” Lin concluded.
