China Criticizes UK Report on Hong Kong, Calls for Non-Interference

China has expressed strong dissatisfaction with a recent UK report concerning Hong Kong, urging the United Kingdom to cease interfering in Hong Kong's affairs. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks during a press briefing on Tuesday, responding to the UK's six-monthly report on the region.

Lin emphasized that the UK report disregards facts and distorts reality, accusing it of grossly interfering in both Hong Kong and China’s internal matters. He stated, \"The so-called report issued by the UK disregards and distorts facts, grossly interferes in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs, and gravely violates the principles of international law and basic norms governing international relations.\"

He continued, \"China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposed to this.\"

Since the return of Hong Kong to China, the Chinese government has adhered to the principles of \"One Country, Two Systems,\" ensuring that Hong Kong maintains a high degree of autonomy. Lin highlighted the implementation of the Law on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, which have strengthened national security.

Lin asserted that these measures have better protected the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong residents, enhancing their sense of happiness and security. He added that Hong Kong is currently experiencing a prosperous period for economic development and remains a stable international financial, shipping, and trading center with a promising future.
