In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Chinese foreign minister, Wang Yi, welcomed Slovenia's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon during her official visit to China on Wednesday. Highlighting over three decades of collaboration, Wang Yi emphasized that China-Slovenia relations have now entered a stable and mature stage.

Wang Yi acknowledged the differences in social systems and cultures between the two nations but underscored the mutual understanding, respect, and appreciation that underpin their relationship. He praised the friendly ties between the peoples of China and Slovenia, fostering a sense of camaraderie despite diverse backgrounds.

The Chinese foreign minister expressed gratitude towards the Slovenian authorities for their unwavering support of China's core interests and steadfast adherence to the one-China principle. Wang Yi reaffirmed China's commitment to Slovenia's national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while respecting its pursuit of a development path tailored to its national conditions.

Amid a turbulent international landscape, Wang Yi conveyed China's readiness to further strengthen mutual trust with Slovenia. He highlighted the importance of working together to advocate and practice true multilateralism, aiming to navigate global challenges collaboratively.

Celebrating Slovenia's recent election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2024-2025 term, Wang Yi extended his congratulations. He expressed China's eagerness to enhance cooperation with Slovenia within the UNSC and other international institutions, striving to steer global governance towards a more fair and reasonable direction.

Addressing broader geopolitical issues, Wang Yi reiterated China's rejection of attempts to \"de-China\" under the guise of \"de-risking.\" He called for China and Slovenia to jointly safeguard free trade, maintain mutual openness, oppose protectionism, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation.

Looking ahead, Wang Yi expressed hope that Slovenia would continue to provide Chinese firms with fair, just, and non-discriminatory treatment. He welcomed the investment and presence of Slovenian businesses in China, envisioning a future of prosperous economic collaboration between the two nations.
