The Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) is set to convene its ninth session in Beijing from April 23 to 26. This session, announced on Tuesday, was decided during a meeting of the Council of Chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee, led by Zhao Leji, chairman of the standing committee.

Lawmakers will deliberate on several critical pieces of legislation, including a draft law on academic degrees and another on tariffs. Additionally, the committee will review bills related to energy policies, revisions to national defense education laws, anti-money laundering measures, and amendments to the accounting and statistics laws. There will also be a focus on enhancing the popularization of agricultural technology through three specific laws.

A significant item on the agenda is a draft decision that authorizes the State Council to temporarily adjust the application of the food safety law in the Hainan Free Trade Port. This move aims to bolster food safety standards in this key economic zone.

International cooperation will be highlighted through the review of treaties on judicial assistance in criminal affairs with Mauritius and Nepal. Furthermore, extradition treaties with Senegal and Greece will also be examined, indicating a strengthened commitment to global legal collaboration.
