Zhao Leji, chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee, met Kim Jong Un, the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), in Pyongyang on Saturday, marking a significant moment in bilateral relations.
Leading a delegation from Thursday to Saturday, Zhao attended the opening ceremony of the "China-DPRK Friendship Year," celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations established in 1949.
During the meeting, Zhao emphasized the longstanding friendship between China and the DPRK, highlighting their shared history of cooperation, common future, and mutual development.
Zhao stated, "China and the DPRK have been good neighbors for 75 years, fighting side by side, sharing a common future and promoting common development." He also affirmed China's commitment to maintaining and strengthening traditional friendly cooperative relations.
Kim Jong Un echoed these sentiments, reaffirming the DPRK's dedication to deepening ties with China. He stated, "The relations between the two countries are constantly developing to a higher stage in accordance with the requirements of the new era."
Both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation across various fields and to coordinate activities for the "China-DPRK Friendship Year," aiming to foster pragmatic and mutually beneficial partnerships.
