The Chinese embassy in Canada has called on the Canadian government to halt allegations of \"Chinese interference\" in the country's elections, labeling such claims as baseless and detrimental to China-Canada relations.
During a public inquiry hearing on \"foreign interference,\" Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused the Chinese mainland of attempting to \"meddle in Canadian elections.\" In response, a spokesperson from the embassy expressed China's strong dissatisfaction with these remarks.
\"China is very dissatisfied with and firmly opposes those remarks,\" the spokesperson stated, emphasizing China's long-standing policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations. The spokesperson added that China has consistently communicated this position to the Canadian side on numerous occasions.
The embassy criticized some Canadian politicians for leveraging the public inquiry to target China, accusing them of attempting to label and cast aspersions without providing substantial evidence. Phrases such as \"highly likely,\" \"probable,\" and \"suspicious\" were highlighted as lacking concrete proof.
\"This once again demonstrates that the so-called foreign interference public inquiry is nothing but a political farce orchestrated by Canada,\" the spokesperson asserted.
Furthermore, the spokesperson accused the Canadian side of provoking China on key issues related to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, including the Taiwan region, Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and Xizang. The embassy also pointed out that Canadian media have reported Chinese diplomatic missions and personnel in Canada being surveilled by Canadian security intelligence agencies.
\"It is quite clear who is interfering in other countries' internal affairs,\" the spokesperson concluded.
