The 27th Chinese Peacekeeping Contingent to the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) was awarded the UN Peace Medal on Tuesday, recognizing their unwavering dedication and professionalism.
The awarding ceremony took place at the engineering company camp of the Chinese contingent on the outskirts of Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu Province in the eastern region of the DRC.
Bintou Keita, the top UN envoy in the DRC heading MONUSCO, expressed her gratitude during the ceremony. \"Over the past 21 years, the Chinese peacekeepers have exemplified dedication and professionalism through their mission,\" Keita stated. She also thanked the Chinese government for sending peacekeepers to South Kivu Province since 2003.
The Chinese peacekeepers have played a pivotal role in defending peace and fostering development in South Kivu. Their significant contributions have been instrumental in MONUSCO's disengagement process, Keita added, emphasizing her pride in the contingent's efforts.
