In a significant move towards fostering stronger connections across the Taiwan Straits, Huang Kunming, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guangdong Provincial Committee, met with a youth delegation from Taiwan led by former chairman of the Kuomintang Party Ma Ying-jeou on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Huang emphasized the need to deepen cooperation and exchanges between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan region, highlighting Guangdong as a hub for economic, cultural, and people-to-people interactions. He noted that Taiwan-funded enterprises have long established a presence in Guangdong, making it one of the most active regions for cross-strait engagements.
The visit, timed with the Qingming Festival—a traditional Chinese holiday dedicated to honoring ancestors—underscored the shared cultural heritage that binds residents on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Huang praised Ma's delegation for their participation in the festival, reflecting the deep-rooted cultural ties that form the foundation of enduring relationships.
Ma Ying-jeou, leading the Taiwan youth delegation's visit from April 1 to 11, arrived in Shenzhen on Monday and toured several key cities including Zhongshan, Zhuhai, and Guangzhou. Throughout the trip, Ma advocated for increased cross-Strait exchanges, particularly among younger generations. He affirmed that youth play a crucial role in the peaceful development and future relations across the Taiwan Straits.
