China Urges U.S. to Ensure Stability in South China Sea During Diplomatic Talks

In a recent high-level phone call, China emphasized the importance of the United States playing a responsible role in maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu engaged in discussions with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell at the U.S. side's request on Wednesday.

Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, briefed reporters on Friday, highlighting that both sides exchanged views on current China-U.S. relations and mutual international and regional interests.

During the conversation, Ma detailed China's positions on Taiwan, Hong Kong, the South China Sea, as well as economic, trade, scientific, and technological matters.

He urged the U.S. to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, respecting China's core interests.

Furthermore, Ma called on the U.S. to refrain from politicizing economic, trade, scientific, and technological issues and to stop placing undue blame on Hong Kong.

The vice foreign minister also reiterated Chinaโ€™s steadfast stance on the Korean Peninsula matter and the Ukraine crisis.
