A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense stated on Thursday that China will not tolerate the Philippines' actions in the South China Sea and rejects any interference by the United States in the region.
Wu Qian emphasized that \"there is no bigger factor than the U.S. interference\" contributing to the turmoil in the South China Sea. He attributed the recent escalation to the Philippines' harassment and provocations.
Addressing the South China Sea tensions, Wu reiterated China's opposition to foreign interference, infringement, and provocations, advocating for the proper management of differences through dialogue and consultation. He assured that China is fully prepared to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.
The spokesperson responded to questions regarding Manila's \"Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept\" and allegations that China obstructed resupply missions to Ren'ai Jiao. Wu criticized the U.S. for provoking confrontation, supporting the Philippines, and exerting pressure on China by deploying military vessels to the South China Sea.
He stated that these actions undermine regional peace and stability, asserting that the U.S. is not in a position to interfere and that military cooperation between the U.S. and the Philippines should not harm China's sovereignty and maritime rights.
Wu accused the Philippines of violating international law and the spirit of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) by infringing upon China's sovereignty, making provocations, and spreading misinformation to mislead the international community. He warned that such actions are leading the Philippines down a dangerous path.
Reaffirming China's strategic resolve, Wu stated that China has responded with legitimate, resolute, and restrained actions. He urged the Philippine side to recognize that provocations would be detrimental and that seeking foreign support would be ineffective.
Concluding his remarks, Wu expressed confidence that with the concerted efforts of regional countries, the South China Sea issue will be resolved, describing it as an inevitable trend of our times.
