The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday expressed support for the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) passing a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The resolution, which garnered 14 out of 15 votes, marks the first time the UNSC has called for a ceasefire in Gaza since the onset of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on October 7, 2023.
At a regular press briefing, ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that the resolution aligns with the correct direction of the UNSC's actions and addresses the general expectations of the international community.
Lin emphasized that Security Council resolutions are binding, urging the involved parties to fulfill their obligations under the UN Charter and take necessary actions as outlined in the resolution.
China expects influential states to play a positive role in supporting the implementation of the resolution through all available and effective means.
Additionally, Lin called on the UNSC to continue monitoring the situation in Gaza closely and prepare for any further necessary actions to ensure the timely and full implementation of the resolution.
China reiterated its commitment to working with all parties to achieve an early ceasefire in Gaza, alleviate the humanitarian situation, and advance the two-state solution.
