China and Nauru Strengthen Ties with Expanded Cooperation Agreement

The People's Republic of China and the Republic of Nauru have committed to deepening their partnership through a comprehensive cooperation agreement. This joint statement, issued on Tuesday, outlines plans to enhance collaboration in various sectors including economy and trade, infrastructure construction, and environmental protection.

President David Adeang of Nauru's state visit to China from March 24 to 29, 2024, marks the first such visit since the resumption of diplomatic relations on January 24, 2024. During his visit, President Adeang held extensive talks with President Xi Jinping, discussing the future of China-Nauru relations and addressing mutual international and regional interests.

Both nations affirmed their commitment to the one-China principle, with Nauru recognizing the government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal representative of China. The agreement highlights China's support for Nauru's sovereignty and its development path, aligning with initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative.

The cooperation framework also emphasizes joint efforts in combating climate change, promoting sustainable development, and strengthening multilateral engagements. Both countries aim to bolster exchanges in culture, education, health, and technology, fostering a community with a shared future.

By enhancing high-level interactions and expanding practical cooperation, China and Nauru are set to build a robust and mutually beneficial partnership, contributing to regional stability and global development.
