Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit in Beijing on Monday, marking the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
During the talks, Premier Li highlighted the mutual respect and equality that has characterized China-Dominica relations over the past two decades. He emphasized the substantial progress in bilateral ties and the fruitful cooperation across various fields that serve as an example for countries of different sizes to achieve mutual benefits.
Premier Li expressed China's readiness to work with Dominica to implement the consensus reached by their leaders, strengthen political mutual trust, and pursue new developments in bilateral relations and cooperation. He reaffirmed China's support for Dominica in safeguarding its national sovereignty and in pursuing a development path tailored to its national conditions.
Looking ahead, China aims to enhance cooperation with Dominica in infrastructure construction, agriculture, and trade under the Belt and Road framework. Additionally, China is keen to develop new areas of collaboration in new energy, digital and blue economies, disaster prevention and mitigation, and broader development opportunities.
Prime Minister Skerrit reciprocated the sentiments, acknowledging the deep friendship between Dominica and China and the role their partnership plays in exemplifying Latin America-China relations. He expressed Dominica's willingness to further strengthen communication, increase personnel exchanges, expand cooperation, address climate change together, and build a community with a shared future.
The meeting concluded with the signing of several bilateral cooperation documents, affirming commitments to the Belt and Road initiative, agriculture, green development, infrastructure, and the Global Development Initiative.
