Chinese Premier Li Qiang has emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during his meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Beijing this Monday. Li highlighted China's ambitious target of achieving around 5% GDP growth this year, a positive signal for the global economy. He noted that China's economy has been steadily recovering since the start of the year, laying a robust foundation for meeting its economic and social development goals.
Looking ahead, Li pointed out that China's economy boasts significant advantages in institutions, markets, industries, human resources, and innovation, ensuring long-term sustainable development. In response, Kristalina Georgieva thanked China for its robust support to the IMF. She noted that China's economic growth has surpassed expectations over the past year, maintaining strong momentum in areas such as the green economy, digital economy, and artificial intelligence. Georgieva emphasized that the IMF is committed to not politicizing economic issues and is eager to further collaborate with China on economic transformation, reform, and opening up. She also highlighted the importance of enhancing China's representation and voice within the IMF.
