Nauru’s Leader Makes Historic First State Visit to China

Nauruan President David Adeang is set to embark on his first state visit to China from March 24 to 29, marking a significant milestone in the diplomatic relations between the two nations. Invited by Chinese President Xi Jinping, this visit comes shortly after the resumption of diplomatic ties in January 2024.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian announced the visit during a regular news briefing, highlighting its importance in consolidating political mutual trust and expanding cooperation across various sectors. The delegation will explore opportunities to deepen people-to-people friendships and push forward bilateral relations.

The recent joint communiqué signed in Beijing on January 24, 2024, reaffirmed the strong ties between China and Nauru, making Nauru the 183rd country to establish diplomatic relations with China.

This visit is expected to foster greater collaboration in areas such as trade, technology, and cultural exchange, benefiting both nations and contributing to their shared goals on the global stage.
