China’s FM Urges Australia to Prioritize National Interests in Policy Making

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on Australia to develop policies that align with its national interests during a recent meeting with former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating in Sydney.

Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that the Chinese mainland is eager to collaborate with Australia to establish a more mature, stable, and fruitful comprehensive strategic partnership.

\"Australia is a partner of the Chinese mainland, and our bilateral ties are progressing in the right direction,\" Wang stated. He added that both nations should foster mutual trust and pursue win-win cooperation to strengthen their relationship.

Highlighting Australia's status as a sovereign nation and an ally of the U.S., Wang Yi urged Australia to formulate policies that reflect its own national interests. \"The Chinese mainland is willing to share its development opportunities with Australia and other countries,\" he noted.

Paul Keating echoed these sentiments, praising China's robust economy and extensive development potential. \"China is not a threat to the world; its development is unstoppable,\" Keating remarked, expressing optimism about the future prospects of China-Australia relations.
