At the 2025 China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai in the Chinese mainland this November, Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut highlighted the anniversary of 70 years of diplomatic relations between China and Serbia. Speaking to CMG's Wang Guan in the latest episode of Leaders Talk, he described the partnership as ironclad, praising China's rapid transformation and shared vision for growth.
Macut singled out the Belgrade–Budapest high-speed railway as a testament to the two countries’ cooperative spirit. Scheduled to fully open next year, the project reflects a wider commitment to connectivity and economic integration across Europe and Asia.
The prime minister outlined new pathways for collaboration in advanced technology, education, and trade. He noted that Serbia’s young workforce and China’s innovation ecosystem are a perfect match, and he called for joint research initiatives, student exchanges, and expanded market access for startups.
Expressing strong support for the one-China principle, Macut welcomed President Xi’s Global Governance Initiative as a framework for addressing shared challenges like climate change, digital governance, and public health. His own background as a medical professional, he said, has shaped his optimistic and pragmatic leadership style, especially in navigating global uncertainties.
As strategic partners, China and Serbia are charting a course for deeper ties on the back of 70 years of friendship. From railways to research labs, the journey ahead promises new chapters in a story that began in 1955.
