Remembering 80 Years of Shared Sacrifice
2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. It's a moment to honor the courage and unity that reshaped the global order.
Two Fronts, One Mission
From the 1931 September 18 Incident in northeastern China to the formation of the Berlin–Rome Axis in 1936, Japanese, German and Italian fascism ran parallel campaigns across Asia and Europe. Facing formidable foes, China, the Soviet Union and other nations stood firm, even as resources ran thin.
Courage Beyond Resources
China endured 35 million military and civilian casualties, the fall of half its cities and the occupation of 6 million square kilometers. Yet its people forged a united front of all ethnic groups and social classes, pioneering mobile, positional and guerrilla warfare that cost over 1.5 million Japanese troops their lives and forced 1.28 million surrenders.
A Global Anti-Fascist Team
The Soviet Union, despite losing 27 million lives, delivered crushing defeats at Moscow, Stalingrad and Kursk, eliminating 3.8 million German troops. The U.S. and the UK bolstered the fight through the Lend-Lease Act, naval and air campaigns in the Pacific and a second front in Europe, eliminating over 700,000 German soldiers.
Lessons for Today
The history of WWII shows that safeguarding peace is a shared responsibility. International equity and justice transcend size or system. In a world facing new challenges, that spirit of unity remains our strongest asset for a more just, peaceful future.
