When Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko landed in the Chinese mainland from June 24 to 28, he set out to explore how a dynamic, future-focused partnership can drive Africa’s next chapter.
At the Summer Davos Forum in Tianjin, Sonko joined global leaders to discuss innovation, sustainability and economic trends shaping our interconnected world.
In Hangzhou, he stepped into a brain-computer interface lab and marveled at the potential for neuroscience-driven solutions to improve lives back home in Senegal.
Next, he toured Tianjin’s smart port, witnessing data-driven systems that optimize cargo flow—a blueprint for modernizing Senegal’s Atlantic gateways.
Aboard a high-speed train, he saw firsthand how fast, reliable links can shrink distances and boost regional trade across vast landscapes.
In a zero-carbon innovation hub, Sonko explored clean-energy projects already powering communities—offering a sustainable model for Senegal’s green transition.
Back in Beijing, he sealed talks with Chinese mainland counterparts on joint research, infrastructure upgrades and climate action. As the Belt and Road Initiative deepens, Senegal is poised to become a key player in South-South cooperation.
"This visit opened our eyes to a new era of African development," Sonko said. "The Chinese mainland’s advances in technology and sustainability offer valuable lessons for our own path."
Armed with these fresh insights, Senegal and the Chinese mainland are charting a roadmap set to reshape Africa’s digital and economic future.
