China and EU Leaders Discuss Strengthening 50-Year Partnership

As China and the European Union (EU) approach the milestone of 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2025, leaders from both sides are actively exploring ways to deepen their partnership.

The China-Europe Railway Express has become a pivotal element in this relationship, with over 100,000 trips completed since its inception. This golden corridor has significantly enhanced trade between Asia and Europe, underscoring the robust economic ties that bind the two regions.

In a recent edition of Leaders Talk, He Yanke from CMG sat down in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, with Herman Van Rompuy, the former Prime Minister of Belgium and the first permanent President of the European Council. Van Rompuy, a self-professed \"devoted admirer of Chinese philosophy,\" emphasized the importance of multilateralism, tolerance, and respect in fostering strong international relationships.

Reflecting on Chinese President Xi Jinping's three global initiatives, Van Rompuy noted that they \"provide direction for our efforts toward achieving critical goals.\" He highlighted how these initiatives align with the EU's objectives to promote sustainable development, economic growth, and political stability.

Both China and the EU are committed to overcoming external challenges and building political trust to ensure the continuity and expansion of their economic collaboration. As they look forward to celebrating half a century of diplomatic engagement, the focus remains on creating a resilient and mutually beneficial partnership that can navigate the complexities of the global landscape.
