Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim Strengthens China-Malaysia Ties at CIIE 2024

In a significant move to bolster international relations, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim embarked on a pivotal working visit to China from November 4 to 7, 2024. This visit coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and the China-Malaysia Year of Friendship, marking a milestone in their enduring partnership.

During his stay, PM Anwar attended the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, a key event that highlights China’s commitment to global trade and economic collaboration. Engaging with Chinese leadership, Anwar emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation, especially as both countries navigate critical stages of national development.

Anwar expressed his admiration for Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing him as "more like a friend," and praised China’s global initiatives as "fundamental pillars" in promoting global security. This sentiment underscores the mutual respect and strategic alignment between Malaysia and China in addressing global challenges.

Looking ahead, Malaysia is set to assume the rotating chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025. PM Anwar is committed to leveraging this position to foster political stability and enhance effective collaboration among ASEAN member states. His visit to China reinforces the importance of maintaining a synergistic and healthy relationship, ensuring that both nations continue to thrive together on the global stage.
