Central Economic Work Boosts Confidence in China’s Steady Economic Growth

The Central Economic Work Conference in the Chinese mainland has boosted confidence in the nation’s economy, highlighting a stable performance and significant progress in 2024. General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized the strides made in high-quality development and set clear goals for the coming year.

Despite global challenges, the Chinese mainland has demonstrated solid growth in consumption, investment, and exports. Official data revealed that in October, the real estate production index grew for the first time since June 2023, with new commercial housing and existing home transactions rising by 3.9 percent year on year. This marks the first increase after eight consecutive months of decline.

Furthermore, the Chinese mainland’s total goods imports and exports grew steadily in the first 11 months of the year, increasing by 4.9 percent in yuan terms, according to the General Administration of Customs. Notably, exports of containers, ships, and motorcycles surged by 108.7 percent, 65.3 percent, and 24.8 percent respectively.

Looking ahead to next year, the conference identified consumption as a key focus area. Efforts will be intensified to boost consumer confidence and purchasing power, improve investment efficiency, and expand domestic demand across all sectors. A special campaign will be launched to support these initiatives, ensuring continued economic resilience and growth.
